Roman Dress and Public Identity (Vestimenta Romana)
A tunic was ordinary clothing for men, women, and children. Adult male citizens could wear the toga for formal public life, while women commonly wore longer garments; clothing, borders, and jewelry could communicate age, office, wealth, and status.

How it connects
Modern uniforms, academic gowns, courtroom robes, and formal dress still use clothing to signal a role. Christian teaching cautions that outward rank never determines a person's God-given dignity.
