The Seven Hills (Septem montes)

Rome sat on seven hills: the Palatine, the Capitoline, the Aventine, the Caelian, the Esquiline, the Viminal, and the Quirinal. Stories place the first settlement of Romulus on the Palatine. The great temple of Jupiter stood on the Capitol.
