A Roman Name (Tria nomina)

A Roman man often had three names. In Marcus Tullius Cicero, Marcus is the praenomen, the personal name. Tullius is the nomen, the name of the clan. Cicero is the cognomen, the branch of the family or a nickname. A daughter of that clan could be called Tullia.
